I log in to Gallifrey Base after some time and the first thing I read is that Mary Tamm died on 25th of July. I didn't even knew she was ill. She played one of my all time favorite Doctor Who companions Romana.

I'm not sure yet what to think of the current season - only one episode to go and still so many open questions. Reminds me of the feeling befor the last episode of" Lost" :-/
I dind't like "Let's kill Hitler" for various reasons. But the episodes afterwards were better (ranging from ok to good). I'm also wondering if the Moff has lost himself in his stories timestreams and mysteries. I hope he does a good finale - Rivers story is turning into a hughe fanwanky mary-sue imho :-/

and now some specualtion about possible solutions/story twist, no spoilers only speculations of mine and speculations (not based on spoilers) I read elsewhere, put behind a cut in case even speculaton is some form of spoiler for you Read more... )

I really hit the germ-jackpott this time. Went to the doctor yesterday, got antibiotics, got sick note for the rest of this week. My voice hasn't fully recovered yet and I feel like crap. Unfortunately I can't use all this "free time" to do some overdue housework, too sick for it :-(

I started to listen to Gabriel Burns from episode one. I didn't remember that #2 is such a good story :-) I'm also curious to find out if I really forgott as much as I have the feeling I did.
My must-listen pile of audio dramas and audio books is not getting smaller. Several CDs of Gruselkabinett (e.g. The Temple by HP Lovecraft), Die schwarze Sonne #9, Planet Eden #4, Danger #8, Doctor Who Companion Chronicles: Stealers from Saiph, Offenbarung 23 #1, Drizzt #2, and I'm thinking of giving Dorian Hunter a second chance. The re-recording is supposed to be better than the first version published I heard from several friends. I'm totally out of the loop concerning John Sinclair.

I was surprised to hear that Ed Wasser will host this years FedCon and not Marc Lee. (Still don't know on which day I can attend, but it will be only one day - don't have money for more)

You can buy the new Lost episodes (versions offered: OV and OV + Germ. subs) a day after transmisson on German iTunes now. Wow, media industry is slowly moving into the right direction. The price is a bit high, but if they continue it will hopefully drop in the future.

Apart from visiting and being visited by friends and family and watching/listening to x-massy stuff (the already mentioned history flic, Nightmare before Christmas, Gremlins, Love actully, Loriot ... the usuall suspects) I re-listened the audio drama series Caine. One reason is that a lot of time passes between the episode releases (they did about 2 or 3 episodes a year) and they released the last and tenth part just recently. So before listening to the grand finale (aproppiately named "Apocalypso") I descided to listen to the whole story again. I suspect there is no hope for a sequel because they published an obituary for him on the offical website.

Stephen Caine RIP )

I finally watched the fist epsiode of the V remake. Not as bad as I expected, but not great either. It was ok, I think I will give it a chance and watch one or two more episodes and see how it developes.

Of course I also watched Doctor Who - The End of Time Part 1. I'm not sure about what to think about it, it really felt like just the opening of a bigger story. And until I know how RTD resolves these plots I don't know if I like it or not.

Watching the SDCC Trailer for the Doctor Who x-mas special didn't only make me excited about the characters seen in it, it also made me laugh at the end. Again they gave us a trailer with the doctor walking away from an explosion (or fire?) in slo-mo. Absolutly uber-cool, and hilarious. Hey RTD, the Doctor is not James Bond - although both changed their appearance while remaining the same person since the 60s :-)

I like a good slo-mo-walking-xplosion scene, but you can overdo it. And some guys even made a song about this :D

I was in the mood for some vids and got lost on youtube.

Here's the SGA vid I told you about [livejournal.com profile] lexi599 Hadschi Halef Omar http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=GT8n4jYMNoY
All kinds of awesome this vid. Unfortunately you have to understand German and know both series (Stargate Atlantis and Karl Mays novels or the films) to fully appreaciate it.

Well I started to look for Doctor/Romana vids and found a few and other clips related to them. I think I'm alone on my flist shipping the two but here are the vids anyway. Get ready for Ten, Four, Nine, Romana I, Romana II and Donna ... oh and Duggan ^_^

Enjoy! )

The SGA vids are technically a lot better. Partly because of the way better material (much DW isn't available on DVD and its a lot older) and I guess the DW fandoms has ... well not so many good vidders. Although I bet there are some well done Ten/Rose vids ... but that s not really my thing.

I wanted to post this two weeks ago, but always forgot.

I already specualted about the plot idea behind Doctor Who episode 4.06 after I saw the preview. I'm glad I was right. Plus after this episode I want fanfiction with Wolverine and the Doctor just talking about something they have in common now :-)
Some more blah and scans with Logan and Laura ... (SPOILERS for the episode)

Some macro-fun about a certain character from next saturdays DW. SPOILER!!!! You've been warned.
What surprised me is that she indeed looks a lot like Lalla Ward, didn't realize that in the trailer.

[no spoilers for current Doctor Who aka season 4]

I read the Doctor Who article in the April issue of DeathRay (one of the two sci-fi magazines that poped up after Dreamwatch became an online-only magazine) and they write that in the DVD commentary (3rd season) to "Last of the Time Lords" RTD calls the hand taking the ring "the hand of the Rani". Is that true???
0.0
THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!
I was always a bit at odds with the Doctor being now the last his of kind in the new series. On the one hand it gives the Doctor a great character development and a darker side. But on the other hand I miss Gallifrey.
I bet RTD just wanted to avoid using those cheesy old costumes. Fashion sense doesn't seem to be a major Time Lord trait ;-)
I would love a return of the Rani. (Hmmm Donna and her bitchfighting *smirks* LOL)
Maybe they brought back the master instead, because the Rani would cause a problem for "a kids show". It would create a kind of Adam & Eve situation. So would the return of Romana. Who, if the audio plays are not canon, might still be alive an well in E-space (another dimension). So it would be less, well, delicate if there are more survivors. (Although a "no survivors situation" would be perfect for the Doctor or the Rani to use that "I wouldn't make out with you if you were the last man/woman left on earth!" phrase ^_^)
I would love to see hints of more Time Lords and Ladys having survived. Yes, that would be a kind of retcon. But they already brought back lots and lots of Daleks.
I wasn't surprised that there was a Dalek survivor in the episode "Dalek". If there's a last Time Lord then why not a last dalek? But then hundreds of them show up. Sure they can multiply fast but apparently there were ways to escape the time war. So tehre could be Gallifreyan survivors...
And if I could make a wish for future seasons, I would love a child of former companion Leela and Commander Andred (a Gallifreyan) as new companion or recurring character.
As much as I love Romana, her return would be complicated. Something maybe better left in the realm of slash-fanfiction ;-)
And if some of the Time Lords return I hope he doesn't have to kill them again. That would be too dark and to extrme IMO. Logically that should lead the Doctor on the same psychological road as Vorenus in Rome - really dark madness and depression. So I hope that RTD never pulls out that plot for an episode ...
Although Time Lords make good villains, I quote the Doctor himself here:

From The Trial of a Time Lord 1
The Doctor : [To the Time Lords] "In all my travellings throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here! The oldest civilisation, decadent, degenerate and rotten to the core! Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us! Ten million years of absolute power - that's what it takes to be really corrupt!"

But I would prefer if he would reason with them or appeal to their feelings instead of doing the Time Lord annihilation all over again.

BTW, loved Donna in 4.04 again. (SPOILERS for season 4) )

I just clicked on todays entry of the Doctor Who Advent(ure) Calendar - and a trailer for the x-mas special poped up :-)(If you don't want to be spoiled at all stop now and read something else.)

It looks like the Doctor is going Bruce Willis in the x-mas special and the director tries to be John Woo ^_^ Fun and lots of action!
... you know the only thing missing in this slow-mo, flames in the back, dramatic talk scene is Tennant loading a pumpgun ROFL 'Last Time Lord standing' ;-) Oh and doing the "Die Hard" complain about not getting a peaceful christmas for once.
