Apart from visiting and being visited by friends and family and watching/listening to x-massy stuff (the already mentioned history flic, Nightmare before Christmas, Gremlins, Love actully, Loriot ... the usuall suspects) I re-listened the audio drama series Caine. One reason is that a lot of time passes between the episode releases (they did about 2 or 3 episodes a year) and they released the last and tenth part just recently. So before listening to the grand finale (aproppiately named "Apocalypso") I descided to listen to the whole story again. I suspect there is no hope for a sequel because they published an obituary for him on the offical website.

I finally watched the fist epsiode of the V remake. Not as bad as I expected, but not great either. It was ok, I think I will give it a chance and watch one or two more episodes and see how it developes.

Of course I also watched Doctor Who - The End of Time Part 1. I'm not sure about what to think about it, it really felt like just the opening of a bigger story. And until I know how RTD resolves these plots I don't know if I like it or not.

Pros
- I loved John Simm as the Master again. Very interesting portrayal of his madness. I understand why some people didn't like it and found it silly and disgusting. But I loved it.
- Wilf Rocks!!!! Absolutly ROCKS!!!!
- Donna is back
- the spiky green aliens were not annoying
- Wilf and the Doctor talking in the cafe
- the Master and the Doctor talking afer the Master did his Sith-style attack
- I never knew that Timothy Dalton could stare so mean into the camera *shivers* I think this is going to be a villan that I will love to hate
- TIME LORDS TIME LORDS TIME LORDS TIME LORDS *SSQQQUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
- The Time Lord robes look great

Cons
- the Naismiths: two stupid one-dimensional villains, aweful cheap plot devices
- the Master cloning himself: not really a comprehensible plan from the Master, also it looked horrible silly. Plus why does the gate clone the whole person and not just the general pattern like the nanobots in the first New Who season? Or did the Master change the programming? That was not made clear.
- about halfway into the episode I noticed the time and thought wow already half an hour going, but nothing happened yet. On the one hand the slow pacing fitted the story, on the other hand I had to think of the massive failure of Buffys last 2-part episode. After the first part I had the feeling that the author introduced too many plots to resolve them in one single episode. And the second part was bullshit. I hope EoT P2 will not fall into the same pit.
- the resurrection of the Master - one word: studid. WTF happend to Lucy??? Suddenly she's some kind of smart double agent? ookaay o.O I liked Lucy in SOTD and LOTTL, but she was a huge dissapointment in this episode.
- Obama was redundant and silly, why all this fuss about him? You could have spent that time to do lots of other things imo

Yup, I was reduced to a squeeing fangirl when watching Dalton and the final scene - but I've got the nagging feeling that in the end the Time Lords will be deader than before. *sigh* There's a little devil on my shoulder chanting "Be careful what you wish for..." all the time.

To close this entry have two funny EOT Part 1 related entries on [livejournal.com profile] ihasatardis.
