During the last weeks on LJ the German language has become a topic in fandom posts. One reason is the unbelievable bad German in Grimm. I watched 6 episodes recently and I'm suprised I didn't bleed from my ears ... I guess because their pronounciation is really bad and you often don't understand the gibberish that's supposed to be some arcane and ancient German word for a supernatural creature. The most fun are the words they invent on their official website. Like the incredible and unbelievable translation they came up with for "Queen Bee" = Mellischwuler! I'm constantly torn between being highly entertained by this sillyness and cringing & twitching in pain everytime they use one of those words on the show. I guess German has become the new Latin *sigh* I know German isn't one of the easiest languages around - even Mark Twain wrote about its complicated grammar. But are language consultants or proper translators that expensive or so hard to find in the States?

The other reson for German being discussed in posts is so nostalgic for me that it lead to a nice sunday spent with very old comics to find some pages to scan. Some might already guess it - we're talking X-Men fandom. Or more specific X-Men Movieverse fandom and fanfiction. It's nice to see that fic-writers are trying to put some German into their stories (because of Movie-Magnetos origin), but they seem to produce a lot of fail. I understand why readers find that annoying and their rants. You can ask the same question as I did above. Is it that hard to find a fanfic beta in fandom who speaks German? There are so many Germans and Austrian people in fandom!
But the strangest thing is they are complaining about the use of the word "Leibchen" :D When I read that I had the urge to jump in all the discussions and shout "hey are you sure it's not a hommage to the old Uncanny X-Men comics?" or "well, the scourcematerial is already bad". But then I stoped and realized that this is movie-fandom and a lot of the fans probably never read an issue of the comic.
So behold the tradition of bad German in X-men in two examples ^_^

Good night and thank you for reading. If you find a spelling or grammar mistake - you may keep it ;-)

"I must ask you to leave the doughnut." *smirks* I'm still not over it :D

Yes, I watched "Iron Man 2" on monday and I enjoyed it very much. Of course not a profound movie, but it's funny and entertaining - especially the witty dialogue.
some prattle about the dubbing )
It tries to stay rooted in reality like the first one, but not doing the dark&gritty realism of the new Batman. That still makes me wonder how they will mix it with the upcoming films to lead into the Avengers movie. I guess Cap won't be a problem, but Thor ...
spoilery musings )
War-Machine was superflous in IMO, but mostly because I find him boring. And I whish they had chosen another villain. He was well played but ... well not my cup of tea. The problem is that (as far as I know, I never read Iron Man comics only Avengers) that Iron Man doesn't have "cool" villains. No Magneto, Doom, Venom or Kingpin.
But Nick Fury and the Black Widow were awesome, I would've loved to see more of them. Makes me really really looking forward to the Avengers film.

I just read that they casted Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano as "The Warrior’s Three" for Marvels upcoming Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh. Absolutly awesome. I'm nor sure what to think of the lead actors (Thor, Loki, Sif) ... but this is so cool! Natalie Portman as Jane Foster is a good chioce, too. Anthony Hopkins will play Odin - that's ok but I could imagine more interesting or better actors for this role. When Stellan Skarsgaard was casted for the film I thought he would play that part :-/ Don't know who he plays now. *walks over to imdb* nope no name given yet. But ... woah.... they got a coloured actor to play the Asir god Heimdall. Interesting choice - especially since the god is called "father of all people" :-) (Either another try at casting colourblind (more of this please) or someone read a bit mythology background and wanted to explore some ideas.)

Wooaahhh WHAT?????

[livejournal.com profile] scans_daily is gone???!!!??? I've been away for a few days and my favorite timekiller has gone from LJ. Can anyone fill me in on the details? (Except that entry from otw-news)

Thid community made me add a lot more series to my subriscriptions. That damn buisness made a lot more money becuase of this "advertisment" place. And Again Mr Ellis and all the other artists who commented and posted on that community gained a lot of esteem in my eyes.

EDIT

You could never read full issues there, only some pages to show the most interesting (in the posters opinion) part or some slashy subtext stuff. Plus some members posted scans from really old comics from pre-WWII and WWII. Ecxerpts from foreign (non US or UK) comics etc. For me, apart from usuall fandom-interaction, it was a place to learn about comics and the fandom itself. And of course as a non-US citzen I could browse though the new issues before they were shipped here. In the times of "global-village" we still get non-digital stuff with the usuall old delay. It was a "shopping-aid"!

Uuhh, and don't get me started on the gender issue ... :-(

[livejournal.com profile] scans_daily has been quite political recently
E. g. some words about voting from Spider Jerusalem and of course "Remember Remember the 5th of November"

I will be very busy the next 4 days working at the international games fair & "comic action" and roaming the place plus rpg on friday evening and a birthday party on saturday ... and trying to get some sleep in between. (I'm one of those people with the incredibly ugly yellow shirts handing out special editions of the German board game magazine ^_^)
I will have aching feet, sore muscles and no voice after those days but I'm always back every year, so much fun nevertheless :-)

Oh, and amazon.de finally sent me the Torchwood soundtrack! :D I listened to it twice today, it's good.

I visited my parents last weekend and was lucky to have good weather. I went shopping (not much) in Bonn and picked up my comic subscription. And look what I found in the low price boxes: Béatrice Tillers "Fairy". The German publisher doesn't exist any more and it was never picked up by another publisher.cover photo ) And it only cost 2,99€ :-)
I also searched old stuff that I stock at my parents attic for old Star Trek fanzines that I want to lend to [livejournal.com profile] frogspace.old Trekkie memories ) Gods, that was a long time ago :-). The red one is a collection of the first SFC fanzines from 1982 to 1984 (I'm old, but not that old). I remember them to be an interesting read, like how fandom thought about the first Trek movies. One of the other SFCs fanzines contains an essay about the K/S discussion ^_^ (i. e. the publishing of the first K/S fanfics in the fanzines).
While uploading these pics from my mobile I noticed that I forgot to post these pics I took in July on my usual walking route in my parents village.
enjoy )
