Better late than never. Here are two reviews to the 2008 and 2007 Fantasy Filmfest movies. (I hope to be finished until the next festival with my promised reviews ^_^) here are the "funnys" from the festivals.
Dance of the Dead
The picture quality was grainy and a bit pale. I don’t know if it was intended (the film is a homage to 80s direct-to-video horror flicks) or if a BlueRay Disc always loses so much quality when projected on a cinema screen.
Apart from that the film was nearly flawless, imho. It hit all the stereotypes, the look, atmosphere and the story from those 80s Zombie flicks. A nuclear power plant, green ooze, a village and a High school full of walking cliché (nerds, prom queens etc.) , obvious false blood and body parts, lots of blood in general and a small love story.
Despite the ridiculous plot and characters they managed to tell a straight story without plot holes and bended logic or physics. Very nice.
All together a great party film. Go watch it with lots of people, popcorn and beer XD
Black Sheep
This is the story of a guy with a sheep-phobia, his sadistic and ego-driven brother, some animal-freedom activists, mad science and a lot of sheep. And where do you find lots of sheep – right in New Zealand!
We follow our sheep fearing friend from the city back to the farm where he grew up, now lead by his big bad brother. He wants to sign a paper so that the whole farmland will belong to his brother. that brother is secretly trying to genetical engineer superior sheep.
At the same time a couple of animal saving activists tries to find out what that bad brother is doing in his secret lab. Of course something goes wrong and hilarity ensues.
A mutant embryo escapes and infects other sheep who mutate into monsters.
Our hero has to overcome his fear and together with the female half of the animal-savior-couple fights the blood thirsty balls of wool with the help of scented candles and pump guns.
The film never really takes itself seriously and the actors are fun.WETA Workshop, who also did the FX on LOTR, made the sheep models. They turned out quite good but not exceptional.
If you can laugh about a story like this and alwyas wanted to see rabid killer sheep gnawing at human intestines - than this is a film for you. We had a lot of fun.

*peinlich*
