What I think about JK Rowlings announcements about character backgrounds and what happens to them later in life ... Neil Gaiman summs that up pretty well in his blog: http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2007/10/flowers-of-romance.html

Besides, the woman can say whatever she wants about her books, and add any info she pleases. Because she's the author and if anyone can, well... ;)
There's people in fandom contesting her additions because "they're not in the book". Of course, everyone is free to interpret a book as they see fit. That's what fanfic is for. Since when has anything that is *in* the book stopped people?
As for her chickening out on jumping on the canon gay bandwagon... that's another matter entirely. True, it would have made for a positive, representative example had Albus "come out" to Harry at some point. I do, however, see that within the constraints of the universe and Harry's limited viewpoint, Albus would have needed to come right out and *say* it to his face. And what would be his in character motivation to do exactly that?
